Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from March of that year.

Success also indicates he has won 21 victories at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent saved four early-game chances in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
